Mac’s Built-in Dictionary

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

This is a quick little video demonstrating how to use the dictionary built into every Mac. It’s not a commonly known feature, so if you didn’t already know about it, I’m happy to introduce you to it.

oDOCKe, change the look of your dock in Leopard

Monday, November 5th, 2007

I wrote a quick little AppleScript and made three new colors for the dock: Ruby, Emerald, and Sapphire.  I’m calling it version 0.1 Beta, because I was having a lot of fun tinkering around and so I thought I might make additional versions of it that might be more useful.  (We’ll see how that goes…)  It’s only for 10.5.  So go ahead and give oDOCKe v0.1 Beta a try.

PCs in new Finder

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

I’ve got Leopard. Will be installing 10.5 Server on a test machine at work. I’ve been having a lot of fun with it. I just noticed that shared PC computers in Finder are depicted with an old CRT monitor and a Windows blue screen of death. I thought that was amusing.

Mac OS X and Vista

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

An article about whether Apple has taken advantage of the poor reception of Microsoft Vista to sell more Macs. As reported by the New York Times, “The best time for gaining market share is when your main competitor stumbles while introducing an entirely new version of its core product. Thanks to Microsoft’s lumbering pace, Mr. Jobs had six years to look forward to the moment when XP would be replaced by Vista.”

Before buying that new iPod..be forewarned

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

Note that none of the new iPod models released yesterday support Mac OS X 10.3 “Panther”, even the new shuffle, though I don’t see why it would not be unofficially supported, as the new update is just cosmetic changes.Just an FYI to all you Panther users..

Reasons I’m staying with Tiger on G3

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

A few weeks ago, I posted about wanting to downgrade to Panther ‘10.3′ on my G3 Blue and White PowerMac, however, I’ve since changed my mind for the following reasons:

1.) There are many Tiger only apps out there, mainly Bean, Adium (though previous versions support 10.2 and 10.3), etc. I also suspect that Panther will be dropped for the most part in apps shortly after Leopard’s release.

2.) Security-Panther will likely be discontinued in terms of security updates prior to Leopard’s release. This would follow Apple previously supporting a maximum of two versions of OSX at a time (in security updates).

3.) Tiger is likely the last release of OSX that officially supports the G3 processor, and thus, having the last release would be beneficial.

4.) WebKit-While many use non-WebKit based browsers (i.e. Shiira, Safari, etc.), Tiger has a newer version of WebKit than Panther.

So, those are my reasons for staying with Tiger..

Panthermania!

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Sorry, I just had to write about this, I know this may not be the place, but, anyway..

For the last week, I’ve had this unusual urge to trash Mac OS 10.4.10 from my G3, and buy and install Mac OS 10.3.9. Why you ask? I have absolutely no clue why I want it. I just do. I know it could run faster, but that’s not really the reason, I guess. I just want 10.3.9. I do not have any idea why I do, but I know I want it. I also know 10.4.10 is better than 10.3.9, but I dunno. Help me!
