Panthermania!

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Sorry, I just had to write about this, I know this may not be the place, but, anyway..

For the last week, I’ve had this unusual urge to trash Mac OS 10.4.10 from my G3, and buy and install Mac OS 10.3.9. Why you ask? I have absolutely no clue why I want it. I just do. I know it could run faster, but that’s not really the reason, I guess. I just want 10.3.9. I do not have any idea why I do, but I know I want it. I also know 10.4.10 is better than 10.3.9, but I dunno. Help me!

Ars Technica: Stuck on the enterprise

Monday, August 13th, 2007

From the article: “…just ask your local IT guy at work how much Apple is on his radar for future purchases. He’ll likely know a lot about Apple, and may even be a Mac user himself, but his next purchase order for 200 desktop computers will probably be from Dell.”

FYI, this is version 1.1 of the document, as of 18 August 2007, additional revisions may be needed.
Changelog:
9 August 2007-Initial guide
18 August-Fixed app file, added fix if necessary

Kudos to macintologist here

Yes, you’re hearing correctly, here is a guide to getting the original Unreal running in OSX. What you need:

-Unreal CD, PC or Mac already installed on a hard drive (the files on the CD as pointed out by Adam in his guide for getting Unreal 2004 from Windows to Mac, are in fact compressed, and must be already installed)

-Patch your Unreal install to the latest version (226 final for Windows; 224 beta 1, then beta 7 for Macintosh)

-Something to copy your Unreal directory to (i.e. CD, DVD, Flashdrive, etc.)

New iMac, iWork ‘08, iLife ‘08

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

New iMac New iMacs were unveiled today. They include the keyboard that had been previously rumored. The new iMacs are made of aluminum and glass. They come in a 20 and 24 inch versions. One particularly nice thing about them is they are eco-friendly. They do seem to bear a closer resemblance to the iPhone than the iPod.  There is also a nice ad for them you can watch.  Prices start at $1199 on the Apple Store.

iWork '08I think it’s being a little overlooked, but iWork ‘08 and iLife ‘08 have also about.  A lack of an ‘07 version is something I was very dissapointed about when I went to Macworld ‘07.  iWork ‘08 includes a new application.  In addition to Pages and Keynotes, you’ll now have a spreadsheet application called Numbers.
